The Tradition Continues! I’ll Be Celebrating My Third Birthday in a Row at SuperManila Comic Con in the Philippines.

If you follow this page or SuperManila, you’ll remember last year we had the idea to produce a couple of limited edition birthday trading cards. We’re expanding on that idea this year. Four cards are planned, plus a convention exclusive print.

  • MILESTONES: Commemorating Secret Wars #8 and the first appearance of the black costume. Limited to 200 signed/numbered cards.

  • ZECKSCRIPTIONS: These cards will be signed plus inscribed or remarqued. Limited to 100 signed/numbered cards.

  • BIRTHDAY: Celebrating 77 years and the ‘SuperManila tradition’. Limited to 77 signed/numbered cards.

  • PAGE CUTS: Cards featuring a comic book cut-out using the 1984 Marvel house ads promoting the Secret Wars Series. Still waiting for the exact number. I’ll just say “very limited.” Signed/numbered. Big thanks to EJ at EDS Authentics for making this one possible!

  • EXCLUSIVE PRINT: I made a custom version of the Secret Wars #8 cover for this year’s Z-Team t-shirts. Then took that art and created a convention exclusive print. A limited edition of 77, signed/numbered, 11×17 prints.

IMPORTANT TO NOTE: Please don’t ask to order ahead! Francis and I tried to offer reservations last year, but it became too much of a project. These are all SuperManila exclusives and will be available to attendees throughout the weekend. We’re bouncing around ideas for a daily raffle and possible other add-ons. Like last year, I’ll try to make any unsold cards available to the US market.

The Marvel Art of Mike Zeck is in pre-launch!

This edition from Clover Press has been in “pre-planning” for a couple of years. Now graduating to “pre-launch.”

The mock-up image above features one of my recreations of the cover of Captain America Annual #8. When I opened my door to cover recreations back in 2000, one of the earliest requests was a full color recreation of the Cap Annual with Wolverine in his yellow/blue costume. I hope it makes the final cut for cover consideration, since it’s one of my favorite efforts from that commission series.

Another Earth orbit spent here in the Philippines…

Today marks my fourth anniversary of living in the Philippines, or if you prefer…

  • Four years of work-free living.

  • Four years of waking up every morning to T-shirt weather.

  • Four years of interacting with people who are unfailingly polite and respectful—where “ma’am,” “sir,” “please,” “thank you,” and “may I” are part of my everyday conversations.

  • And four years of making friends who have made my retirement far more comfortable and enjoyable than it might have been anywhere else.

Another Birthday, another SuperManila Comic Con, and my first “Birthday Trading Card”!

Just like last year, I’ll be celebrating my birthday at SuperManila Comic Con, happening the first weekend of September. There’s no better way to celebrate than huddling up again with fellow Filipino and international artists—and the incredible Pinoy fans and collector community.

Exclusive “Birthday Trading Card!!”

My friend, Francis Dayao, together with EDS Authentics, came up with a unique idea for my birthday card—a limited-edition Birthday “Trading” Card! They’ve created a couple of fantastic designs that will be signed, numbered, and available exclusively at SuperManila. The cards are numbered #76 to honor my age at the show. Gold frame editions: Limited to 10 pieces — White frame editions: Limited to 50 pieces.

I’ll be at the convention both days, so swing by my table to get your books or collectibles signed, pick up a print or two, or just stop by to say hello.
