Mike Zeck
Born in 1949 in Greenville, PA, Mike Zeck grew up in South Florida and honed his artistic talents at the Ringling School of Art in Sarasota. His journey eventually took him to Connecticut, where he became a celebrated Marvel and DC Comics artist.
Mike’s artwork has left an indelible mark on the comic book industry, inspiring generations of fans and creators. His groundbreaking six-part saga, Kraven’s Last Hunt, created with writer J.M. DeMatteis and inker Bob McLeod, is widely regarded as the definitive Kraven the Hunter story. This acclaimed Spider-Man tale has repeatedly been voted the “Greatest Spider-Man Story of All Time,” cementing its place in comic book history.
Collaborating with writer Steven Grant and inker John Beatty, Mike redefined the Punisher in the iconic Punisher Limited Series, later collected as Circle of Blood. This series not only elevated the character to flagship status at Marvel but also introduced some of the most enduring and iconic Punisher imagery, including stunning airbrush work by Phil Zimelman.
Mike also played a pivotal role in Marvel’s groundbreaking 12-issue series Secret Wars, teaming with writer Jim Shooter and inker John Beatty. His design for Spider-Man’s black costume remains one of the most iconic elements in Marvel lore, later evolving into the fan-favorite character, Venom.
Many of these classic stories remain in print and continue to captivate audiences, with Mike’s artwork frequently featured on t-shirts, costumes, and merchandise.
Beyond these legendary works, Mike’s artistry has graced countless other titles, including Captain America, Master of Kung Fu, Aquaman, Batman, Legends of the DC Universe, Green Lantern, G.I. Joe, and more.
